SUMMER 2009
SDG COMPONENTS
Ready To Launch!
The new ownership/management team has been on the gas this summer working on several new initiatives for the globe’s premier saddle maker. First off, the Brand has received a modified facelift, complete with freshened up logo and icon. We’ve also been tightening up the Formula Platform. In addition, we have ample inventory on the most popular models! Read on to find out more about what’s going on this summer at SDG COMPONENTS!
New Look for a New Day
The new logo, complete with the iconic mark, is prominently featured on the new 2010 product range (stay tuned for updates), collateral material, packaging and our new Interbike tradeshow booth. Feedback thus far has been solid from consumer focus groups, domestic retailers, teams/athletes and of course, international distributors.
“I’ve been working with SDG COMPONENTS for going on eight years now,” said Silverfish managing director Darren Mabbott. “We’re excited by the new look and feel of the Brand. We look forward to the new items for 2010 – SDG is going to the next level in the UK. I can’t wait to see next year’s range at Eurobike!”
Speaking of the UK, the Brand received rave reviews for the Formula FX / I-Beam Carbon Fiber post recently in the summer edition of MBR. The ‘system’ received a stellar score of 9 out of 10, a tall order to be sure. Paul Burwell rode the saddle for 18 months on his trail bike and he was impressed with the low weight, simplicity and comfort of the I-Beam Technology.
In addition, the aforementioned saddle’s kid brother, the Formula FXR, received a favorable review – scoring 8 out of 10 in the same publication. “The new Formula FXR from SDG felt like I’d been bumped up to first class at check in,” said tester RW from MBR. “Long rides now feel like sinking back into a sumptuous armchair rather than suffering the ignominy of a cramped, cattle class journey.” Overall two solid reviews in one magazine, MBR!
Formula Platform
Solid and versatile, this model continues to impress both the MTB and Road sets. After a two-year product development process our designers crafted a slightly longer shell than many leading saddles, and as a result - the Formula series offers plenty of room to maneuver in the cockpit. It relies on dual-density Edge Flex™ to ward off discomfort on longer rides. In addition, the Edge Flex™ eliminates any sharp edges, so the legs won’t lose power and maintain smooth spinning motion. Its relatively flat profile features an ample rear section for all body types. Covered in a stylish one-piece, embossed Micro-Fiber material that is both durable and eye catching. Also available with Topeak® QuickClick™ Bag Mount. The Formula also utilizes a Flex Cavity™ for a firm, yet comfortable ride. A CNC plate is bolted to the beam, increasing strength without adding weight. Available in the following models: FX, FXR, MT, MTR, TT, TTR.
SDG COMPONENTS on the Podium
In the latest rounds of World Cup Racing ( #6 Mont Sainte Anne / #7 Bromont) – Sam Hill (Team Monster Energy / Specialized) continues his champagne celebrations, by taking top honors in Men’s DH at Mont Sainte Anne and finishing a close 3rd at Bromont. His latest accomplishments have propelled him to the overall series points leader, above heavy hitters Greg Minnaar and Steve Peat. SDG is proud to support 7 out the top 10 DH’ers currently positioned in the 2009 Nissan UCI Mountain Bike World Cup Series. Jared Graves (Yeti / Fox Shox) is also riding the top spot, leading in Pro Men’s 4X, along with Tracey Mosely (Trek World Racing) currently in 3rd overall in Women’s DH.
In other recent action, SDG COMPONENTS would like to give props to Aaron Gwin (Yeti / Fox) for being crowned the US DH National Champion. And with the Kokanee CrankWorxs festival currently ongoing, SDG riders take a break from the World Cup circuit, but still continue to dominate. Kyle Strait (Team America / Specialized) upset legendary Brain Lopes to take 1st in Dual Slalom. Kiwi Justin Leov (Trek World Racing) descended 3,400ft from the top of Whistler Mountain – with an impressive time of 13:44:55, grabbing 1st place in the Monster Energy Garbanzo Downhill event, with Sam Hill (Team Monster Energy / Specialized) taking the 3rd podium spot. Also from Trek World Racing – Andrew Neethling (SA) took 3rd in the Air DH Competition with over 340 riders, shredding down famous A-Line, with nearly 100 jumps!
About SDG COMPONENTS
Inspired in the early ‘90s by the Huntington Beach, Calif., action sports scene and the speed defies gravity mantra, SDG COMPONENTS has emerged as a leader in the global bicycle saddle market. From its inception, the Company had sought to shatter stereotypes by creating the industry’s first Kevlar saddle covers, followed up with complete Kevlar-covered saddles. More recently the Company completely revolutionized the seat-to-post connection with the coveted I-Beam Technology. The Company isn’t resting on its time-tested, race-proven heritage, and today, with new ownership and laser-beam, bike-only focus, SDG COMPONENTS continues to keep the industry on high-alert, with new concepts launching into the marketplace every year. With distributors in 30 countries worldwide, the Company is distinctly woven into the tapestry of the bicycle industry. Embraced by teams, professional athletes, weekend warriors and product managers, SDG COMPONENTS saddles may be found as Original Equipment on leading brands such as Cannondale, Commencal, Giant, GT, Haro, Intense, Louis Garneau, Mongoose, Orange, Rocky Mountain, SUNN and Yeti.
